Gun World magazine relaunch

Gun World Magazine got burned down and rebuilt. It's been around since 1959 -- maybe you've never heard of it, maybe you've seen it and passed it up, or maybe you have read it in the past but don't anymore. The December issue is an all-new redesign. It's got a new look, but most importantly, the con...

Re: Just bought a K98…guess how much

Saw two today at a gun show offered by the same dealer. Both were advertised as with all marks in place and with NO Import mark. One was priced at $799 and the other at $899. Both looked to be in "good" condition. Something about the higher priced one that made it higher priced wasn't evi...

Re: Just bought a K98…guess how much

I haven't seen one advertised from the usual sources in a long while. I'd be afraid to guess. How about $400? Anywhere close? If it were a bring back...no import marks on it anyplace....$600, $800? I'm lost. I have two but they were imports and had most of the marks scrubbed. Got them ten or so yea...

Just bought a K98…guess how much

One checkmark on my firearms bucket list: Just found a K98. Appears to be a war bring back (no import marks). Waffenampts. Almost all matching except Safety and front handguard keeper (Whatever it's called.) Fair condition. Original wood, with visible waffenamt. Nothing has been modified, except the...

Century Arms

Hi, I'm pretty up-to-speed on most guns, but am a little lacking on Mausers. I have knowledge about the gun itself, but not as knowledgeable on what has happened to guns since the war -- specifically dealing with import into our country, and the history of Russian Capture. With that said, I would li...

Re: Found K98, should I buy?

Just an update -- I talked to the Gun library manager, and he told me that unfortunately they aren't able to lower prices on Mitchell's stuff. I'm thinking they probably payed too much. So I decided to pass on the rifle. Hope I can find something else before they become too hard to find. Thanks for ...

Re: Found K98, should I buy?

Since you don't show the bolt I can't tell if it is a renumber, BUT being a mm rifle I'll bet it is! The stock nr is wrong for an original German rifle. NOT the right place. Also can't tell from your photos, but mitchels is good at putting new made stocks on their imports and then numbering the sto...

Re: Found K98, should I buy?

I don't know that the multitude of negative comments don't have some basis in truth. But..... if I were interested in the rifle I'd look it over carefully and make up my own mind as to if the serial numbers look legit or not to me. The minor factory stamps would be of lesser concern as they could b...

Re: Found K98, should I buy?

I don't know how much credibility any of those gunboards guys have. I don't see why being a Russian capture.....meaning spoils of war and maybe not actually capture ... would make any difference as to how genuine the serial numbers are or how genuine the rifle is as to being a Nazi era weapon of wa...

Re: Found K98, should I buy?

In Russia and their European satellite states after WWII, after reparations were handed out, there was, as we know, a tendency to take everything apart and then put it back together without respect to serial number. Mass production and interchangeability of parts was a faith they invested in..........
