Re: Need help with ID'ing possible first SMLE

The U type stamp is the Enfield ED logo, its actually a E and D locked together. The arrow with a circle on each end is a percentage mark, it means this item was selected as part of the 10% check on parts for quality. And because its got the ED logo which a 1920s logo, I believe it means that this r...

Re: Need help with ID'ing possible first SMLE

In conversation they were refered to as 'number one mark three star' or SMLE or mark threee etc. No.I MkIII is just the official designation for official paperwork etc. I doubt many people would use the whole designation in conversation unless differentiating between models. Re: Need help with ID'ing possible first SMLE

Looks like a very nice MkIII (I say MkIII* as it is 1918 dated and only later when the designation changed did it become the No1 MkIII and the later became the No.1 Mk3). I'd say it has had a FTR at some point, can you post a pic of the whole rifle?

Re: Webley & Enfield revolvers with accessories (image heavy)

Thanks guys, its number 177 which matches my early Bren gun, no M177 purely by chance. I have a early driftable back sight to go on it at some point to bring it back to its early spec. I also have No 489 which is 1930 dated and is my best example, and 1931 dated A1153.

Re: Webley & Enfield revolvers with accessories (image heavy)

Hi, I'm new on the forum and I noticed this thread. I've an intrest in the No.2 revolver having 7 of them, my earliest is this 1929 dated example which oddly has No2 Mk. pantographed on it with no 1 after the Mk. It originally had no hammer stop or groove and was returned to the factory to be upgrad...
