Re: 1895 M-E Keyholing

"...the notch in the rear sight base's hinge...' The backsight ladder's pattern dates to the Snider, when burying the front sight post in the bottom of the gigantic vee was a real possibility at close range. I checked this on my Snider and the groove in the hinge makes it possible to sight with...

Re: What do you make of this?

That's not a Fazakerley rework mark, it's a Fazakerley build mark. A straight-up 1948 No4 Mk1, as sold to the South African government in large quantities. Yours is a South African Navy rifle---which gives it a boost, as far as I am concerned. Have you checked the butt trap? The two SA No4s I own, b...

1941 BSA No4 Mk1

Serial number "A 2111"---so it's possible she actually came out in '41. Wearing the '41 dated leather sling and what would seem to be original wood---the forestock is numbered with the axis of the bore, as it should be on an early rifle. Cocking piece is a later addition and so is the back...

Re: Snider Enfield And The "Alpha/Omega Shoot"

Merits and demerits about equally distributed between the two----the contrast between the beginning cartridge rifle and the current state of the art, contrast which is itself a third element created by the first two being conjoined---this adds a particular savor to the range day. It's almost like Ch...

Snider Enfield And The "Alpha/Omega Shoot"

Fired the "Alpha/Omega Shoot" this last Sunday----that would be the ".577 Snider and the AR 5.7x28 Shoot" in plain language. The Snider---an 1872 BSA two-band and all twelve of my cases, fresh out of the rinse water. http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL165/1109208/8312249/358402609....

Niner, I posted this at gunboards, too, with a direct query about the "P"...the post is going to fall off the bottom of that forum soon without a nibble on that one. If this is a relined barrel, I can't find a seam at the muzzle and the Puolustuslaitos mark looks like this. -----krinko [pi...

1897 Tula

SA marked, Civil Guard number, original bolt, bright bore, tiger stock, pinned bands and no import mark. [pic]http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL165/1109208/7081205/356526103.jpg[/pic] The striping of the wood isn't shown well in these photos---too bad, but I can't fix it. Anyway, here's the Tula mark...

That's the third time I've seen that mark---here's my '24 Tula. Also saw it on another M91 which was too far gone to interest me, but did also seem to be from the SCW. Has this mark been identified? Sorry, but I've been away from the Mo-scene recently. -----krinko [pic]http://pic20.picturetrail.com/...

That's not a stamp, it's hand engraving---I can still see the layout lines.

Extra nice.
