$20.00 M-1 Carbine
I bought this carbine off my father about 10 years ago, it was always one of his favorites and saw duty with him on the Cincinnati Fire Dept during the 68 riots after MLK was shot. It's a 10/42 Inland M1 carbine that was re-arsenaled and upgraded after WW2. My dad as a Life Member of the NRA was eligable to purchase this rifle in 1967 for the sum of $20.00 shipped. It shipped out of the Anniston, Alabama Army Arsenal,( latter to become CMP South) via Railway Express. After selling it to me he gave me the shipping papers for the rifle, which adds I am told between $300/$400 to the value of the rifle since they where sold in such limited numbers.
Enjoy

Now that's a keepsake...because it is from your dad...and that it cost less than what UPS would probably charge to ship it now days. Of course 1967 dollars were worth more than the dollar today. Still amazing that that was the price through the NRA. Good post.

Good rifle , good story .
A pic of the whole rifle would be good as well , for someone who doesnt really know what it looks like .

Thanks for that MT not familiar with them on this side of the pond , I can see where Bill Ruger must have got his inspiration from for the mini 14 and even the 10/22 .
Thanks again Dave
ps they do look good together .

Beautifil Carbine.
I just looked up the minimum wage from 1967. It was $1.40.
Would have cost me 12.5 hours labor back then, and a little more for shipping.
I guess that would be like $90 now.
Bargains like that are long gone.....

Re: $20.00 M-1 Carbine
Sorry, but having the shipping doccuments will NOT add $200-300. to the value of the Carbine. Perhaps $50? The papers will definately make the carbine more desireable to some collectors though.
The Carbine was $17.50 and $2.50 for Railway Express shipping. Both my dad and I got one. Don't remember what the makers were, but both were later replaced with Winchesters, my dads from a guy who got his thru the DCM and still had the papers/shipping box. That one is now also mine, giving me both an early and late Winchester.
