My M1917 at last!

Christmas came early this year for me. The weekend before last I lucked into a Winchester M1917 action that had the wings intact.
Today I visted a small gunsmith/parts store in the Dallas Texas area. I asked if he had a M1917 barrel and/or a stock. He had one of each. The barrel was a surplus WWII manufacture replacement barrel still in the cosmolene and factory wrap. The stock was also of the same era and also un-issued. I have a front sight and most of the bands in my misc gun parts box. :D

That looks to have turned out really well. Good looking gun....and as you point out.... it shoots pretty good too. You did a great job from the looks of the photos.

Adjusting windage on a M1917 is usually a pain in the butt because the factory targeted rifles and adjusted the front sight, then heavily staked front sights. You should not have that much trouble.

I have never seen a British or US front sight/windage adjustment tool, but I did recently buy one made by some European country that was Lend-Leased a lot of P14 rifles. Expensive. Apex had them:

In terms of how far to move the front sight, and how much taller/shorter you want the blade to be, I believe this lists the necessary calculations:

Thanks NuJudge for the link on the front sight adjuster. It took almost two weeks before I could bring myself to order one but since I have a P-14 as well as the M1917 that mitigated the pain (And a bit of single malt ;) of the price. Is the bloody thing made of silver?
I was shooting a 200 yards so the height is about right I'll just have to aim a tad low. I kinda like the battle sight being in the center of the bull at 200 (Ok close at 200) My old eyes have a bit of trouble seeing numbers on the sliding leaf on the shooting line. :TX:
