58 caliber lead ball compared to alloy ball

Post by Niner » Sat Jan 12, 2019 12:06 pm

Saw this test to determine the penetration and to what extent there was loss of configuration in a 58 caliber round ball in lead compared to a lighter alloy ball fired with the same rifle with the same load of black powder. The lighter alloy ball performance I think surprised them.

Thanks for that, very interesting; I also read the one on building the rifle.

Having acquired lots of roofing lead when the house next door was re-roofed and I don't hunt anything bigger than foxes and paper targets, pure lead does OK for me.

I thought that the video had stopped, then WHAM!!, very impressive.
