Re: Martini-Henry Artillery Carbine Mk.I
Meanwhile, back at the range...............
Everything booked for Sunday 11th. Ammo loaded, early lunch set and then........................ Saturday afternoon a friends wife telephoned and said "Can you take me to the hospital, husband has just trapped his finger in the band saw!
2 hours in emergency then "He has to go to the specialist hand hospital in Bordeaux tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.for an operation to sort out the 3 fractures"
Up at 6:30 a.m. this morning and back home at about 1 p.m. - watched the Rugby instead..............
Might try again next Sunday

Re: Martini-Henry Artillery Carbine Mk.I
Finally..............range time with a result!
I have not enjoyed shooting a 'new' rifle so much in ages
It is a beauty..................
Bottle of hot, soapy water to keep the crud soft for when i get home.
There will be a short video on YouTube as soon as i get it uploaded..........

Great news. I'm happy for you. And particularly since the rifle was brought back to life by your efforts.

Udder cream Joe, just a small amount on the nose. It softens the crud in the barrel and makes it easy to clean.
I pulled the barrel through twice after I shot and then cleaned it with my patent steam wand about 3 hours later and there was hardly and fouling in the water.
A lot of the British Militaria Forums members swear by it - including me

Youtube, no less.
Why did you fire the rounds so fast? I'd have thought, considering all the time and effort you had into each round, and considering the new firing pen, you would have wanted the experience to go slooooowwwwwly.

Re: Martini-Henry Artillery Carbine Mk.I
So who was the guy who first took his wife's skin cream and used it on the bore of his rifle to soften the crud? Maybe the wife left it behind when she moved out and he was trying to find a use for it?
