Siamese SMLE on indoor range

Post by joseyclosey » Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:27 pm

Just spent the best part of today at my local range loading short range cast bullet loads for my pals two latest acquisitions, a swedish M96 and a rather rare Siamese smellie.
We met up at the Castle range about 11am, had a brew and set to work. We worked with the swede first and then moved on to the BSA & Co smle.

After trying various bullets we found the rifle grouped best with the NOE 202g bullet, sized .316 over 5g of Viht N310 and almost as well with another NOE bullet a plain base 155g sized .314.

Please bear in mind these loads work safely in this particular rifle and you do need to develop your own loads for your own particular firearms and needs.

The rifle I won't say too much about as the owner is wanting to do a more elaborate post about it himself but I will say it is one of 10,000 built for the King of Siam's Wild Tiger Corps and are not usually found in this nice condition.

The foties aren't the best as the lighting in the castle isn't too good

The proud owner ....

I have two of them and that one is in superb condition compared to mine.

Mine don't only have pits on the surface but some full blown mine shafts :( , amazingly the bores are good as are the works.

I take the better one to the range occasionally but only because someone has expressed an interest in seeing it.

I do fire it but, but only for fun; I've got better No Is :)
