Bullet lube question
Any of you guys got any experience with LEE Liquid Alox??
I was planning to use it for my 10.4x38R bullets in my Vetterli rifle.
All ideas and suggestions on any other type of lubrication are most welcome.
Met vriendelijke groet,
Martin

Re: Bullet lube question
Martin,
I have tried it and it does not give very good results for BP shooting. ;
Best is to use a good BP lube on the bullet. There are various brands, but eventually you have to find one to your own liking.

Re: Bullet lube question
Martin,
I am using a homemade mixture of 50 parts beeswax, 40 parts Crisco and 10 parts canola oil. It works great for me.

Re: Bullet lube question
Thanks for all your info.
If I understood right, beeswax is a very important ingredient for a good bullet lube.
Just one question AJ.
Could you please explain to me what Crisco is and what canola oil is made off; ???
It may be a stupid question, but I just can't figure it out.

Re: Bullet lube question
"Crisco" is the brand-name of a hydrogenated-oil shortening product popular in the US.
Canola is a US market-name for rapeseed oil, made from the seeds of Brassica napus.
Both ingredients serve to soften the beeswax so it is easier to apply to the bullet. Olive oil will do as well.

Matin,
You can substitute olive oil for the canola oil. Some guys use extra virgin olive oil, but I fail to see what virgins have to do with bullet lubing. ;

Re: Bullet lube question
Well......eeeeehhhhh, maybe you need that virgin olive oil in brandnew barrels; , so the bullets will slide .........no, no way I'm gonna finish this virgin oil and bullet lubrication story.
I might get banned from this board.;
