Swiss 96/11 find -w pix

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

Swiss 96/11 find -w pix

Post by ThePitbullofLove » Fri Apr 22, 2005 5:17 pm

While working hard today *cough*, I was in the neighborhood of a local firearms emporium, know for having decent prices and often a rack of C&R stuff.

Whilst perusing the racks, I noticed a rather large number of C&R guns, including 2 Chilean Mausers, 3 P-14's, 10 Enfield No. 4's, A couple of Springfield Trapdoors, some Steyr 95's, a Remington 1903, and a couple of Turk Mausers...looked like they cot a collection in.

While wandering around and thinking, "Hmmm...decent prices.." I laid my eyes on the back wall of the shop....and there she was.

A Swiss long rifle, a 96/11 by the looks of things. Well, let's see what the price is...but I'm not buying today....

Hmmm....$195 the tag says, bayonet included. I look her over, and she looks pretty good, the bore has strong rifling, but looks a bit cruddy, still, $195...

So then I call my brother for advice...

"Does it have a splice in the pistol grip?" Yup. "Okay, it's a 96/11". "No import marks" Nope.

"Is it 'P' marked?" Yup. "And it comes with a bayonet?" Yup. "And you're still asking me about it?" Nope...off to the counter.

Sadly the bayo doesn't have a scabbard, but on the bright side, $185 OTD.

This is stamped on the comb of the stock-

Any idea what it means? TIA
