A Swiss 1889 rifle for $25.95?

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

This was in a 1954 NRA magazine.

The 96 rounds thrown in for free are worth more than the price of the rifle.

$25.95 was quite a bit of money in 1954.

I found a chart for conversion to 2003 dollars.

$25.95 in 1954 is approximately $178 in 2003 dollars.

The median family income was $4167 in 1954.

I recall in the mid '60s the local Coast to Coast Hardware store was selling Swiss 1911's.My Dad would'na let me purchase one as they were an "odd ball" calibre.
