NEW RANG TO SHOOT AT - SOUGE.

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

NEW RANG TO SHOOT AT - SOUGE.

Post by DuncaninFrance » Sun Mar 08, 2009 2:46 pm

At the start of 2009 4 of us from Blaye joined a club that shoots on the Military Ranges at Camp Souge which is about 15kms south of Bordeaux.
Last Saturday, 7th March, the range was supposed to be available all day and so my pal Alain and I went down, arriving at 11:30am so we could have a look-see ( it being our first visit as members ), eat some lunch and then shoot all afternoon.

The place was deserted!

We spotted a couple of guys in a 4x4 and asked them where the club was shooting?
Oh they said, they packed up at 11am and buggered off!

Anyway, here are a few pics of the place!

We went back to Merignac ( which is on the same road ) and shot the 200mtr range in the afternoon instead so not a wasted day after all

The Souge secretary is in for a few hot words though

Jeeze Duncan,

ya get a day away from the missus, some male bonding, a trip in the country and ya still whingin'.

You bloody Yorkies are a hard lot to please

Still it would have been nice had they hung around a bit longer. Better luck next time.

What these bastards omitted to say was that the target shooters were due back after lunch and in fact that is what happened. It turns out that the 2 in the 4x4 were hunters and they are sore because they think they should be the only ones to shoot on the camp areas. Using ranges at weekends reduces their areas of access and they don't like it.

So - stuff em  The club is shooting all day next Saturday (14th) on an 800mtr range so it's the same plan as last week with lunch and camp chairs!! Will post pics. Sunday ish!

I was shooting some test loads at 300 mtrs. prone. I just can't do it anymore, can't get a good sight picture because of back problems BUT, next time it's my shooting bench and comfortable seat!!

Wow, great range Duncan.
I can use a 100 meter range every week, but 700 meters..........FANTASTIC.

Thanks for sharing the info and the picture.
