Guns in Switzerland

The country that avoids war and the country that fights but has a hard time winning have been combined. The Swiss made some excellent firearms and the French made some unique and occasionally inspiring ones. We have added the Belgian and Dutch since they are neighbors.

Guns in Switzerland

Post by joseyclosey » Fri Feb 11, 2011 9:02 am

The Swiss vote in a referendum this Sunday on a measure to collect military-issue weapons. The aim is to store guns in public arsenals, rather than at home -- and cut down on domestic violence. But it could end a tradition of gun ownership associated with Swiss independence and the legend of William Tell.

Its looking like the proposal has been rejected by the Swiss populace..........

Early results from a referendum Sunday show at least 14 of the Alpine nation’s 26 cantons (states) voting against proposals to ban army rifles from homes and impose new requirements for buying firearms.

Popular referenda in Switzerland require a majority of votes in a majority of cantons to pass.

The population at least got to vote. It wasn't done by legislators acting on behalf of the highest paying political fund or most popular special interest group.
