Brens & Stens

Postby joseyclosey » Tue Mar 07, 2006 5:10 pm

Got to look at a series of photos taken during the Malayan conflict in the 1950`s. These belong to my mates Dad, who did his National Service 53/54, he kindly allowed me to scan and post some of his photos here.

Hope you enjoy them.

Joe

This is obviously a range day with Brens..

..and Stens.

..on vehicle patrol, Bren right, without mag. No5 far left. Note 44 pattern webbing.

Ten years later and with different weapons it could be a scene from Vietnam.

Really historic pictures Joe. Glad you posted them. ......That's some hat the guy in the top picture has on. How can he see where he is shooting? At least it keeps the sun out of his eyes and the rain out of his face. ...... I still have my old jungle hat from Vietnam. It was the most comforting piece of issue I owned at the time, excepting my rifle.

Malay Pics

Postby TaosBob101 » Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:18 am

Nice pics.

I love the Brens best. This is the only Malay era combat pic I have. I like the way all the "kit" is tied down for the operation.

Great pics Kevin, thanks for the link, i hope you dont mind me posting them"live". I find the headgear really interesting, did the NZ army not wear beret`s or the Aussie type of "slouch hat in taosbobs pic?

Which Regiment was your Dad in?

Joe
