Finally, got a folding stock Carbine in excellent condition. I have only seen three in my lifetime. Two day trip to get it but would not trust transits to bring it to me. It has the untouched mum, is matchin with rod and very nice stock. Stock has been refinished at some point in time but was done by someone who knew what they were doing. riceone.

Congratulations riceone !!!!!! Now that is a lovely rifle. I have never seen one like that. I think it was worth the two day trip to get it. I certainly will never see one here. Enjoy!!!

It looks very complicated. Interesting to consider the continued use of a wooden stock instead of say a folding metal one that would need much less work to produce.

I know hindsight is a great thing but I almost get the feeling that this is looking at the problem from the wrong direction. A problem with all military supply thinking at some time or another

I know, I have been on the end of the results more than once................SA80 is a good example.....what rubbish

Duncan, I am told that less than 300 of these were fabricated. Prior to this the Japanese Paratroopers had dropped their weapons in canisters seperate from them. Needless to say they got seperated and it was dissasterours for them. After that they started an effort to develope a weapon more suited for jumping with. This was one experiment. The second was a T99 with interrupted threads to seperate in halves and put in a jump bag attached to the soldier this was called the Type 100. Second attempt was a Type 2 which was the predercesser of the what later standardized. The Type 100 had the bale on the left side. That was changed and put on the right and the Type 2 as we have was born. There is one other experimental Paratrooper. It was the Type 2 with a folding bayonet. There are only two of those know to exist - ser. no. 5 and 7. I will own no. 7 in a short while and post more pictures. riceone.
