Shoot tomorrow
Attending a 600 yd military shoot tomorrow at Diggle Ranges near Manchester. The military comps are shot about once a month although there is a full shooting calendar year round. Course of fire is 2 sighters and twenty to count on a tin hat target.
My firearm of choice for this month is the Schmidt Rubin 96/11 with GP11 ammunition. I haven't fired this rifle at 600 before so i am really looking forward to seeing how myself and the rifle perform.
I have been giving the SR a good clean and check over this afternoon and its looking good.
And a quick inventory of what i need for the morrow...
Rifle, GP11, chargers, mat, scope, pencil for scoring and a Bombay Bad Boy for the afternoon lunch break.
Yep, i think everythings there, just need a bit of decent weather now.

Re: Shoot tomorrow
Sounds good Joe I am going to give Diggle a look see but not yet.
Went to the range to day did not shoot but had a look through the sight of a couple rifles scopes and a black powder pistol.
My left eye is now my dominant eye since the eye op. Trying to get the head in a position to see down the sights with my laft eye wasnt very succesfull.
My right eye is shite at the moment. I cant shoot left handed so bit of a bugger.

Tell us how the GP11 did
I've shot a lot of GP11 through Swiss rifles, but never beyond 200 yards, and at that range it is hard to improve on.
Here in the US, our Civilian Marksmanship Program lets us use a US GI web sling on such rifles. Do you use a sling there in Jolly Old for 600 yards?

Re: Shoot tomorrow
Joe, don't believe that is a 1911. The laminated on "pistol grip" gives it away. Its a 96/11.

Original military slings are permitted NuJudge but i never bother using one in any comps i shoot.NuJudge wrote:I've shot a lot of GP11 through Swiss rifles, but never beyond 200 yards, and at that range it is hard to improve on.

Duncan, i took two Pot Noodles but Adam scoffed the other one, a sweet and spicy curry jobbie. Incidentally he was shooting a newly acquired Kar11 in this comp too, using my dwindling stock of GP11. I must source some more!
As it turned out due to weather and target issues the comp was actually shot at 400yds and after doing our stint of butt duty in the am Adam and i shot in the pm.
It was a most excellent day out which was made even more interesting by a very low and slow flyover by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Dakota wearing its D-Day invasion stripe paint scheme.

Re: Shoot tomorrow
Nice looking range Joe are you shooting down hill or is that just the camera angle.

Re: Shoot tomorrow
No Dave, you are actually shooting uphill and it was a bit of a pain in the neck shooting from prone. That is the covered in 400yd firing point and is fitted out with concrete benches, the first backstop in the foties is for the 100yd range where mini rifle and pistol calibre rifle is shot.
Diggle is a interesting layout of ranges with special rules and requirements, being a NRA RCO doesn't qualify you to run these ranges without further training here.

Re: Shoot tomorrow
It seems all the ranges I've seen photos of, on the other side of the pond, either make you lie down or stand in a hole.
Why don't they build you some tables to sit at??
Vern.
