Yes, You must check it for functionality.
Besides that the only other thing I can think of is to remind you to use care when cleaning the stock to preserve the markings and not round off any edges.
It's going to look great!

It used to be a mantra among the "serious" collectors to do nothing cosmetic to any curio and relic. The idea was that , like antiques of other sorts, an avid top dollar collector would discount any refinish, no matter how close to original, as deflating historic value. "As is as found" with the assumption that some "cleaning" and gun oiling allowed is the best policy if you want it to maintain the best possible value.
I tend to follow the mess with it as little as possible notion if you ever plan on selling it. However, since you are probably going to hang on to the rifle until you go toes up and your next of kin will probably have one of your French buddies dispose of them for her for whatever the nearest Frenchman will pay, it doesn't really matter if you took a notion to paint it pink with green stripes as it shouldn't be a concern.
By the way, the nicks and gouges on the butt you might want to keep... the Swiss troops used to operate and drill in the snow and the snow grabbers or cleats on the boots would have a tendency to mark up the butt stock.

Re: Schmidt Rubin, Model G11
To be honest, at around $280 I doubt it will make any difference to the value if I cleaned up the stock. I bought it to shoot not to collect so I am going to have fun and use it.
Even if I have bought something like this one http://www.naturabuy.fr/Carabine-22Lr-S ... 35115.html I would still be shooting it not 'collecting' it........

The bolt is in good order, no rust or damage that I can see except for the eye if the safety lever, just some dust in the crevices.........
