Rare Finn B-Barrel

Post by Miller Tyme » Tue Mar 11, 2014 4:09 pm

Sometimes a rifle comes along that just needs to be in your collection, even if it isn’t what the main focus of your collection is, this is just such a rifle.

It’s a 42 Finn B-Barrel M91 built on a round receiver in a 2 piece Finn stock. The rifle barrel has the VKT proof stamp and a pristine bore. I do not believe rifle has been fired since importation since most of the metal is still covered with cosmoline . With no more than a dozen of these floating around the states I figured it would make a fine edition to go with my B-Barrel M39.

A round receiver on a M91 is really odd to me. I thought they were all hex receivers even as rebuilds.

No there are some rare M39's and M91's that where built on round recievers, and there is an 1896 Finn Dragoon on another forum that has a hex reciever that the finns turned down to make a round reciever ( for reasons totally unkown). The Finns also used some round recievers on the Tikka 91/30's ( M30's) in 1943 & 44, but by far they perfered to use the hex recievers.

Here is a link to that oddball Finn Dragoon

Will you be adding that one to your collection?
Regards
Peter.

Yes sir Peter, it's safe in my gun safe, now to try and find an M39 B-barrel with a round reciever. ;)
