Duncan,

You need a smidgin off the shoulder on the barrel, but first check the mating face on the body for any burrs.
A gentle rub of the body on an oil stone might be all that is necessary.
Once the barrel screws in (or before) take a thou or two off the chamber end, you might be lucky and not have to remove it again.
Regarding headspace on a .310,
get a case with a maximum rim and check the distance from the fully seated rim to the end of the barrel.
You can do this with a straight edge and feeler gauges.
The clearance between a max case and the bolt face ought not be greater than ten thou (0.010")
even better if it's around five thou.

Regarding the forend holding lump; fit the forend and use the it as a guide to drill the hole, it's a plain pin and has no thread, you should have the old pin, just drill (preferably ream) to a sliding fit.

Have fun :D

Eoin.

Local gunsmith lost the 2 screws that hold the backsight in place while it is being soldered.
Can't find any replacements ANYWHERE so had a brainwave.................What about screws for watches / clocks?

Screws arrived yesterday, there might be something in there that works :)

Not bad for £5 :D

Good thinking, now you just have to tarnish the heads a little so they don't look new.....

Yes, maybe a drop of acid on a cotton bud might do it............

RANGE TODAY AND A RESULT! Tried 3 different loads of Vhitavuori N340. 4.5,.4.8, & 5.0 grains - 5 round of each plus chamber lightly polished with chrome cleaner. Also cleaned all the case lube residue off with alcohol. All the 4.5 grain loads ejected without any problem. The 4.8 grain loads were difficult and the .5.0 grain stuck as before but were the most accurate. SO going to try a load of 4.65 grains. It really is a little beauty to shoot. :AUS: :GBR:

I have been using 8 grains of 2400 in my cadet. It leaves a bit of residue but shoots OK. I should experiment a bit more but not got round to it.

Peter.
