Stupid Gun Laws

Here's a post from an Australian site:

"Here's an example of how silly these gun laws really are, a friend of mine owns
property adjoining a state forest, he's having trouble with foxes (you'll
immediately want to know which state forest, well I'm not telling).

a. He can shoot foxes on his property with his shotgun.
b.He cannot shoot foxes in the state forest with his shotgun.
c. I can shoot foxes on his property, with his permission.
d. I can shoot foxes in the state forest with an "expression of interest" [VIctoria, other States have different criteria or do not allow hunting in State Forests].
e. He can shoot foxes in the state forest with an expression of interest if
he borrows my shotgun.
f. He can shoot foxes in the state forest with an expression of interest if
he buys another shotgun.

Yep, his gun is a category C.

Seriously, have you ever heard of anything so bloody stupid?"

Cat C is in this case a pump action shotgun; farmers etc can have one for use on their own property if they can show "good cause".

So what kind of shotgun is allowed on state property? Is there a bag limit on foxes?

Allowable shotguns are single and double barrel and upwards, lever action repeaters, bolt action repeaters but NO pumps or semi autos.

The bag limit on foxes is as many of the nuisances as one can get. :D

Crazy. Pumps will only hold so many shots...unless you get one of those magazine tubes that hold more shells. In the US there are laws about how many shells you can have loadable in your gun to hunt certain game animals but with an animal that there is no limit on I don't think there are any numbers limitations....at lease that I'm aware of. But... I gave up hunting when I came back from Vietnam and am not really sure what the laws are here..although each state makes it's own rules I think. I guess if they don't like pumps where you are then the auto shotguns are banned altogether?

Autos are not banned outright; farmers etc., who can demonstrate a "genuine need" can get a licence'
People with a disability, such as having only one arm, can also get an auto for sporting purposes, such as clays.

What does "Expression of interest" mean?

I don't live down in Victoria but I believe it roughly means that one has lodged an intent to hunt in a particular forest and that approval has been given.
