Shooting again..........
Re: Shooting again..........
The milage thing was one of the stumbling points years ago. For some reason the usual 12,000 miles a year lease was too little for what a lot of people were driving. The over miles penalty under terms was a problem with people who were driving the hell out of cars. I never could figure how any trade in got as many miles lots of the time for ordinary people who one would think had a job at some job in town. More people than you would think drove the hell out of cars back then. However, buying a car didn't help them either if they financed the car....which most people did. Trading in a car with lots of miles after three or so years would bite them on the butt in the trade in just like leasing. The dumbest thing would be if you leased a car and bought it at the residual value price at the end. Don't do that is still probably good advice.
My last truck I bought new in February of 2017 has less than 6000 miles on it. It would have been crazy to lease it. I'll probably keep this one until I can no longer drive. I'm old and retired.

Re: Shooting again..........
Interesting. I do around 16,000 kms / 10,000 miles a year.
The Kia costs 31,000€ / $34500 but i don't have a quote for the lease yet.
The Hyundai costs 28126€ / $31160 and the lease is 335,54€ / $372 per month for 5 years then a purchase option of 11162€ / $12400 or a hand back.
The Kia is the better car by What car comparison and that is my preferred on but the finances might force me to have the Hyundai.
The Kia also has a 7 year warranty as opposed to the Hyundai's 5 so that is also a plus.
The other important point is what I get for the Ford C-MAX and from who! If it can go towards the lease car to reduce the lease cost that would be good but if not it will have to be sold privately
All will be clear on Monday

One of the things to consider... or used to be in the US... is if you buy a car and trade in a car the trade difference is taxed at the full rate of whatever it is where you live. That means the value of the trade vehicle, which you have paid tax on in the past, is subtracted from the actual sales price of the new vehicle and only the difference paid tax on. In Mobile it's 4.5%. The lease deal is that they buy your car and then lease theirs but the tax is determined on the whole figure the least is based on. There is no tax credit for your old trade in car. Then the tax is applied each month to the lease payment at some possibly different rate than buying tax rate...often higher actually. Another thing to consider is that the actual interest rate that is built into the lease payment is generally not apparent. Great news for the finance end of the deal. They can charge the lease actual dollars at as much as the payment level will bare and it is all folded into the lease. This way they can sell you at say an 8% rate without you knowing and actually to the financial institution get say a 4% rate and scoop the discount rate into profit. The biggest potential crooks in the car business aren't on the sales end but in the finance department.

Re: Shooting again..........
In France the trade in is not taxed. The only tax payable is on a new car. The dealers charge you for delivery, preparation and documentation and then make money on the finance deals and insurance if they manage to sell it.
All my insurance is through a broker in Cognac who is a specialist in insuring English speakers as well as the French.
The staff are delightful people and although the premiums are not rock bottom it is very pleasing to know that they will sort out any problems for you.
My wife thinks we should buy the new car outright so I am also considering that option. It all hinges on Mondays test drive.........

Re: Shooting again..........
On a lease the monthly payments are negotiable you know. They aren't actually written in stone....unless you have only one dealer in the area and then he will have you over a barrel if you want a particular model car.

Re: Shooting again..........
Well, I went and bought one........Got an amazing deal on the Ford and a great price on a demo model, 3 months old, less than 3,000 miles and a tow bar and Confort Pack included. Pick it up on 24 Dec because the demo models have to be 3 months old before they are sold on so they don't attract extra taxes.
It will be this colour.

Re: Shooting again..........
The amazing deal on the Ford was the exchange allowed against the new KIA. I am buying a KIA NIRO Hybrid Active with a Confort Pack and tow bar included...............

Oh... guess I wasn't thinking about the Ford you traded in as being the good deal in trade value.

When you say tow bar, is that a tow bar on the front or trailer hitch on the back?
