The most popular cameras in the world today

I saw this post linking to a study made from flicker images to try to determine what the most popular cameras in the world are by country or geography. Interesting surmises. This is one graphic of the most popular cameras, over all, in the world today. One graphic that surprised me was that Russia is one of the few places that ranks Nikon number one and Canon is the overwhelming favorite.

Somehow I wonder about the conclusions as to reality. A Canon EOS 5D Mark IV retails for something like $2500 plus the lens. I can see professionals and amateurs with deep pockets going for it, but "real" people going on vacation or taking pictures of junior's ball game team and sis's birthday party...... probably not.
