WWII surplus aircraft

Post by Niner » Fri Sep 22, 2023 11:43 am

A guy named Charles H. Babb acted as broker for a lot of US surplus aircraft after WWII. However, the government was aware of how dumping WWI aircraft after that war caused some problems with aircraft development and production and most old aircraft went to the scrap heap or to foreign countries. Some smaller planes could be converted for crop dusting or some other utilitarian use but many war planes, other than cargo planes, as we've seen the photos. were stockpiled in what amounted to plane junk yards .....so I read.

However, some were sold to whomever had a reason for owning one apparently.
