A very high numbered 1903 RIA

Just got a real nice RIA 1903. Interesting part is that it has a 1927 SA barrel that might be original. Seems that RIA stopped assembling rifles in 1919 or 1920 but had 2500 or so receivers left over that were sent to Springfield Armory. SA then assembled them over the next few years with a variety of SA parts added to the RIA receiver.

Based on what I have been told, mine is one of the last 500 RIA's made.

You learn something new everyday.

Anyone know anymore of this story?

Actually, most of the RIA receivers from about 375,000 to 430,000 were sent to Springfield Armory as "spare parts" in the mid-1920s after RIA quite making rifles.
