Niner Delta and I were talking about collecting Knives

Post by Niner » Fri Mar 20, 2026 9:01 pm

We were talking about collecting knives in emails and I told him I thought I posted about them here but can't find the post if I did. So.. for his amusement...the ones in the red velvet case are "collectible" in the more serious way. The ones in the paper box are flea market good luck knives that are all two or three dollar knives collected over maybe two decades from a flea market.

I almost forgot about these I have hanging on the wall in cases. The dark case was official for the collection and the blond one not. They were knives issued by the Franklin Mint back during a Civil War era commemorative era. I bought one of them and then a lot of years went by and then went looking for them on ebay as the notion struck me. I have the complete set and a couple individual doubles. They aren't really worth much as individuals or even a set but I like looking at them.

The Franklin Mint was an outfit that made objects that were glitzy and sold as collectible new made stuff like you see various crooks offering gold coins as a hedge against inflation. Franklin Mint is long gone and most of it's "collectibles" haven't appreciated much, if at all. Maybe if I could live another fifty years my Civil War commemorative edition knives will double in value.

That is quite a nice collection, even all the more common ones in the box is impressive. And the brown handle one
on top of the box, I didn't know you were a University of Florida fan. ...
Even a straight razor in the red velvet. My Dad was a barber and I have some of his old straight razors, still sharp.
I am amused and impressed with your collection. .. :D
